I remember the last time they met,
How tears streamed down his face
When she had said, “I don’t even remember myself, how will I remember you?”
And he had given her the strength to find herself again.
He had said,
“I am in the sun you see everyday
And in the stars that you wish upon
In the clouds that fascinate you and in the rain that takes you home.
I am in the fingers that lead your hands,
And in the eyes that look for me.
In the lips that shape my name, in the ears that await the music of my voice.
And in the thoughts that mirror mine
I am in the senses that protect you,
And in the words that have formed you.
In the tears that escape your eyes, and in the screams that intimidate all.
I am in the water that cleanses you,
And in the air that you breathe.
In the soil that steadies you, in the fire that burns in your heart.
I am who you see in the mirror each day,
And in the courage that you impart.
In the love that you believe in and the light that you radiate.”
“As you are to me,” he said after a pause.
