Rain in the Sunflower Fields

There were these sunny patches

In the stormy sky before the rain

The thunder was perfect,

As was everything that got a little blurred

When the raindrops fell softly on the roof

Of our little cottage near the fields

Away from the terrifying realities of the city

Where we'd spent a great deal of our lives.

We stood at the window

Its was just the two of us

As the coffee steamed from its mugs

I looked at everything around me,

My heart getting a tiny bit of reckless

With each passing second

Finally I couldn't bear it any longer,

I rushed out into the rain

Already high on the smell of the earth tickling my nose

And the fresh air making me smile like the sun on its happy days

"What are you do--," he started

"Never mind," he said, and smiled as he walked out of the door,

And I sighed,

Because I loved people who smiled when t rained

Don’t get me wrong,

There were still places where the sunshine kissed the soil

And my best friend walked straight into one of them,

The light lilting his laughs

He was dry and I was wet, in that beautiful sunflower field

And we kept sucking in the feeling of joy,

As the coffee lay forgotten on the window sill.
